ran perfect until i turned off gas now it will only run 4 a short time

Is the tank properly vented to prevent a vacuum from forming?

Paul, it sounds like there is something blocking the flow of gas from the tank to the carb. Check for obstruction in the line, a twist, or something in the tank. Also, check the fuel shutoff valve t make certain that it is working properly.
